I just need to know what it's called to see if I can order one or find it in a junk yard or something. Our gear shifter is missing the rubber thing. It's going to tear up our boots without it. Can someone please tell me what it's called?

The rubber tip on the end of the shifter...... that ought to get your desired request across to the parts guy.....

Good chance you will have to replace the whole shifter arm. IF who ever made your bike has a part number for that tip, it probably will cost nearly what the whole thing costs.

You could search a bike wreckers yard and find one with a little luck, too.

Theres supposed to be a rubber tip on the end of the shifter???? If its sharp why not just grind it down to not be sharp????? I cant see a shifter ruining boots but then again I havent been around long enough to see enough bikes...

Some bikes have them, some don't. Depends on the design. Many sport bikes don't have 'em, but some do. Most all cruisers have 'em, but there are probably exceptions to that too.....

Filing the sharp edge off is a viable option to consider though.

thanks. we're looking at junkyards and online. we can order it, but it'll cost something like 60 dollars. We can duct tape it for that! It's not sharp, it's just kind of scuffing the boots.

a blue 3m buffing pad will buff it out so there will be no scuffing.

If I didn't have that shiny scuff mark on the top of my left boot, I think I would walk in circles to the left from the extra aero-drag... not to mention walking into poles and dodo cause I'd always be looking down at that boot trying to find the missing wear mark.

Don't know if you're still looking. I've used electric wire heat-shrink wrap on these kind of things for sharp edges. Its tough and smooth, inexpensive too, until you can get the 'right' part.
