New bike

Got a new bike today... it's a H-D 2001 XL1200C... Haven't had a chance to ride it yet, the dealership is getting it ready with a few repairs that are needed on it...

Looking forward to it though...

First bike?
While it's at the dealer, have them rejet the carbs so that it runs richer, those pipes are blueing WAY out there, so it's running REALLY lean.

yep... it's my first bike... will be going through RidersEdge in a couple of weeks at the same dealership that I got it from... I'll check with them about what you said... they actually have done a ton of things on it to get it ready... it had short handlebars on it and they changed it out for new ones that are more of a crusier style... They were going to change out the pipes with the standard ones, but they got crushed in transit, so they are keeping those pipes on it...

Just can't wait to ride it...

What I mean by blueing the pipes is see how they're discolored til about half-way down the pipe? That's caused by excessive heat from the cylinders. It basically means that when the previous owner put those pipes on, he/she did not change the carburetors to allow the right amount of fuel in and it ran without as much as it should have had. The less fuel with the same amount of air means that it ran hotter temperatures and discolored the pipes like you see there.
Also, fair warning, those pipes are going to be earsplitting... You'll probably get complaints from neighbors and such.
As a warning, be careful. This bike is more powerful than what is recommended to most newbies, and chances are with the right application of throttle it will lift it's front wheel off of the ground.
Definitely good you're taking the rider's edge course though, will help with your learning curve drastically!

My thoughts exactly. They will shatter your eardrums and your neighbors will definitely want to kill you. It will definitely reduce the enjoyment you will get from your new bike.

Thanks for the heads up on the pipes..

we had originally wanted them to put the stock ones back on, but it just didn't work out... they actually initiated the idea, but I guess with the pipes coming in crushed and knowing that the bike was getting sold one way or another, they didn't worry about changing them out...

I appreciate the info on the pipes... might be something we change out if it doesn't work out... thnks

Yep. I'm in Columbus too. Took "Rider's Edge" at C&A in Plain City.
