When I bought my motorcycle a few weeks ago, gas prices in this area were $3.95 a gallon. Even though it is sitting in the garage I checked prices at the pump and they are down to $3.27 a gallon here, so...

No escaping Murphy

Now, if we could get motorcycles that run on diesel like the KLRs (?) the military has. I'm still paying $4.16/gal for that

I think everything the military has runs on JP8/diesel. That is $4.05 a gallon here, down from about $4.60 a gallon. Yes, JP8, they use the same fuel in their turbines that they use in their HMMV's.

When I got the M50 Suzuki, I figured that it would take about 5 years for it to pay for it's self, or less with gas rumoured to get to $7.00 per gallon. Since the gas prices dropped it will take longer. I am going to do a heck of a lot of cruising to get my money's worth now. :goldwing:

lol I was just taking the angle that if you bought a motorcycle to escape gas prices and they went down, I need to buy a motorcycle that runs on diesel so that the diesel prices would come down.

I have got to say, that one went by me.

You could convert a bike to run on diesel, but don't convert a Harley, Since they are air cooled, I don't think they could take the heat.

i think the diesel KLR still beats the "fudge" out of $ per mile compared to the stock one, even with the much higher price of diesel to gasoline.
The USA Marines Corp (USMC) have taken the popular Kawasaki KLR650 Miliary Edition and together with Hayes Diversified Technologies (HDT) of California converted it to run either diesel or aviation kerosene fuel. It runs a very impressive 120 miles per gallon at 80 miles per hour.

Here in Central Utah, still at 3.99/gallon. Today I passed one station (next to a lakeside marina) that was still 4.50/gallon. Hate to know what they were charging boaters a couple weeks ago.

Here is Central Ohio the price is down to an average of about $3.60 from a high of $4.15 or so...

Can't say that I got a motorcycle solely based on gas prices, but it was a nice side effect coming from a 4X4 SUV driving 40 miles a day for work commuting... :)

Doesn't the y2k run on diesel?

**** Just checked, yes it does, and so does the 420hp new one****

because obviously 320hp wasn't enough for a motorcycle

***EDIT 2***
I think someone needs to teach them that "streetfighter" does not mean "Give it a hideous paint job"
