Hello all, a friendly teen from southern Ontario here!
I'm currently 16. Looking to buy an older bike very soon, and fix it up over the winter, so I can start riding in the spring.
Right now I'm in communication with someone selling a 1983 Yamaha XS 400. Don't know what any of the members here think of that bike. It's in decent condition, needing the carbs cleaned, and has a problem with the gas tank. The ad says a replacement is needed, and the seller has not replied yet, but hopefully I will be able to find one/fix it.
Well, a little back story to my showing up here. I have always had a thing for motorcycles, you know, like most kids do. Seeing the sport bikes fly by on the highways, the harleys rumble at the street lights.... mhm... yes, so anyways, as I grew older I found myself asking for less rides from my parents to places and more just getting on my bike (thats a regular old pedal bike...
) and going where I needed to go. The logical choice now that my distances are much further, and fuel costs are much higher, is a motorcycle. Small, easy to manage, great on gas... all good.
-SUMMARY-
So, summarizing that hugely long paragraph story:
-haven't got the bike or license yet
-want to pick up a cheap project bike to fix over winter
-is the XS 400 a good deal for $250 needing the carb cleaned and tank replaced?
-anyone got a teardown manual for said bike?
Thanks in advance for any responses and welcomes!
