As I was doing research on the right first bike for me, I fell in love with the Triumph Bonneville T100. I'm drawn to the fairly simple mechanics, the craftsmanship and the overall look. However, other than what I've read on the website, I don't know much else about them. I've heard they have a tendancy to leak oil...etc. I've read great reviews from owners but any feedback would be appreciated!

Sorry that noone has ever posted a reply here....hopefully you got it figured out and unfortunately, I know nothing about Triumphs except
a) my one buddy swears by them
b) my other buddy just lowsided his a couple weeks back...

The new Bonnevilles are great. A smidge different than the classic 60s bikes dimensionally, etc. and they keep the fluids inside where they belong. Triumph these days builds a competitive bike. I love my '99 Trophy 1200. I'm commuting about 500 miles a week on it. A little high on the maintenance side, but I'm good with a wrench. I'd definitely consider another for my next bike.

Those were the old Meriden built Triumphs, which disappeared from the radar in the mid 70's. The new Hinckley built Triumphs first appeared in the early 90's and they share nothing but the name with the old ones.

The Bonneville is an excellent bike and Triumph has a good warranty system, but not as extensive a dealership network as they had a few years ago. I had two Hinckley Triumphs, a 95 and an 01 and while they both were excellent rides I did have lots of problems with them. Most of that can be attributed to the fact that both bikes were new models (ie: my 95 Thunderbird was the first year for this model, as was my '01 Tiger with the new engine) and there were teething problems that had to be sorted out. I know of a couple people that ride new Bonnevilles and they have not had any problems with them at all; I think Triumph got their act together with this bike and it shows.
