cb750 idles high

i have a 76 honda cb 750 starts fine runs perfect till its good and warm than it just idles real high if i turn the idle screw down it starts popping and finally dies. even when it is warmed up it still runs fine just when i pull the clutch in or come up to a stop it idles real high

It may just take a while to warm up, I know mine does. Set the idle while it's hot, and keep a hand on the throttle until it is.
There may be another answer, but I haven't found it yet.

whats high?
They should idle around 900-1100 RPM.

Well check your choke first. Then you can turn down your idle with the idle screw. One more thing you might want to check is your carb sync.
