Does anyone know if there is a place on the bike where I can tap off to get a tachometer signal from?

That depends on whether the tach is purely mechanical or not (I presume you meant an electrical signal)! Is there any electrical wiring going to your tach?

Yes, electrical. I am not very familiar with motorcycles, but with cars I am pretty proficient. On a car the tach signal is usually taken from the coil or from a pin on the computer of a newer model car. Is there a coil on the motorcycle I can tap this signal from?

I have never dealt with a mechanical tachometer, so I really wouldn't know how that would hook up. I imagine it would be a lot more complicated though.

Yes, there's a coil.

However, you need to make sure the Tach is compatible with your bike. Some bikes are 1 spark per 2 revolutions, some are 2 sparks. they are usually referred to as single fire or dual fire.

My Honda NH 750 has 2 coils. for 4 cylinders. 2 plugs get a spark at the same time. So I have a dual fire system.

If you have a 2 cylinder, with 1 coil, then you are dual fire. If you have 2 independent coild, one for each cylinder, you have single fire.
