Hello all, I am a new rider and just picked up a 1982 Yamaha XV920R (not a Virago) for a steal and am looking for some info. Everywhere I look online says they are Virago's, but this one isnt. This bike is a spitting image of what mine looks like. Is there any major differences between the XV920R's and the XV920J Virago's aside from the R's having chain drive and the Virago's having shaft drive? Are the parts interchangable, as in front brake handles, front signal light covers, rear brake pedals, etc etc? I only have about 20 miles on this bike so far. It wasnt rode for over 3 years, and I bought it from a kid who wanted some money for a down payment on a pickup to plow snow with. Thanks in advance for any information.

Dude the best way to find out what's compatible is to compare like bikebandit.com's part lists for each bike. Don't just look at those Yamaha models, look at all of them. I saw an XJ900 fairing on an XS750...it looked like it came from the factory.

Went on to bikebandit.com and all they had was the Virago XV920RJ, which I believe, aside from drivetrain, are identical. Thanks for the help though man.

Hmmm...

Way back when Yamaha created the Virago, the first Japanese V-twin cruiser, they decided that the torquey V-twin should reside in more than just a cruiser, so they created the 920R, also known as the EuroTwin.
