Timing chain question?

Hello everyone! I have a question and I'm hoping someone can answer it. My boyfriend has a 1996 Kawasaki Vulcan Classic 1500. It has 33,000 miles on it and looks brand new. He rode it to work this week and was in 2nd gear going up a hill and laid on the throttle. The bike sputtered and fishtailed - now it makes a chugging sound when he starts it. Our mechanic said it was probably the timing chain.....so.... I guess my question is....where in the heck is it? I've looked online everywhere and cannot find anything. Thanks in advance!

Go here: http://www.bikebandit.com/

Look up under OEM Parts and pick your bike.

Look at the engine Fiche.

The Vulcan Has 2 timing chains. 2 Tensioners. the engine is overhead cam, the chains turn the cam.

But It sounds more like fouled plugs or carburetor problems.

Chugging sound

Does the chugging sound make a metal on metal sound / slap or is the engine just not revving up to normal rpm?
