Buying Ducati 750 Sport

I just put a deposit on a 2002 750 Sport with just over 8k miles. I have always wanted a Ducati, and finally found one in my price range. I was just going to check with the other owners to make sure that the model, which was only made for one year, is mechnically sound and isn't known to have any problems.
The dealer has been at it's current location for as long as I can remember, and I trust that I am getting a fair price. I know the bike is little low on HP, but I've been riding cruisers since college and think the bike had plenty of power for me. I also know the rear brake seems a little weak, but I was trusting the dealer that the braking is the same on all of the 750 Sport models.
I could still back out if necessary, and would appreciate any warnings if this is a model to be avoided. I was also curious about their reliability in general. Thanks for the help

Excellent bike, old and trusted engine design. That specific model might have only been made for one year, but that is because they upgraded the motor to an 800 the next year. They had the 750 supersport for a looong time before 2002, but the 02 was the only half-fairing fuel injected one from what I remember.

An upgrade to the rear brake pads should help, but you should mostly be using the front brake to stop, especially on a front weight biased sportbike.

Reliability isn't bad. Regular ducati stuff... check the valves every 6k miles. Change oil every 3k miles (especially do this because it is aircooled so it runs a little hotter than a liquid cooled motor). Change the desmo belt every 2 years.

It would be in your best interests to learn how to do valve checks yourself if you plan on putting on many miles. It isn't hard to do, especially on the aircooled bikes.

I had a 2005 Supersport 1000DS, but I sold it due to wanting a bike that my girlfriend and I could ride. I really wish I didn't have to sell it, and I might try to pick up another one in a few years.

Thanks for the help. I posted on a few forums, and this is the only reply I received. I take delivery Saturday and am still feeling confident about the purchase. I was suprised at the lack of responses, but guess it's better than hearing 100 horror stories about the model.
