Was out browsing yesterday, and the local Harley dealer made me an offer I could not refuse on a 2006 Road King Police with 1880 miles on it (it was apparently a demo bike).

It's a bit heavy, but I've been practicing tight turns and low speed maneuvering in the local school lot, and riding the neighborhood streets.

Loads of fun!

She's a beauty!

the Rude King is a true Hog in every sense of the word, but with practice, you can really put it where you want it at low speeds! If the police can do all that fancy stuff with them, you can too--just get in your good crash gear, get in an empty parking lot with warm engine and warm tires, and practice!

That bike's gonna make you happy, I bet....congrats!

Not the best bike for a first bike, but not a bad bike! The first road bike I ever road (outside of the MSF BRC) was a built road king. In the time the guy (mom's now ex-bf) owned it, the only thing that ever went wrong was the blown transmissions (including a baker, lol). Though that happens when you beat the ever living "pee" out of your bike and it has a fully built motor... Ride it like a sane person and it'll give you many trouble free miles. Even if you DO bump the power up a bit.

Oh, yeah - ATTGAT. The guy who delivered it from the dealer looked at me like I was nuts when I put on the helmet, gloves and jacket to move the bike from the street to the garage.

:)

I've got some halved tennis balls for cones, a nice empty lot nearby to play in, and free time during the day to ride the quiet neighborhood streets, and I plan to take a very slow and methodical approach to developing the skills.

I did have an inattentive flagman wave someone through a stop sign to turn left in front of me already. Fortunately, the lessons of the BRC (building on a decade and a half of driving emergency vehicles) had me in the "everyone else out here is an idiot" mode, so I had already slowed a bit approaching the intersection and was covering the brake lever, so I was able to avoid the car with room to spare.

The flagman was appropriately contrite.

Nice bike!

We have a guy in our area that has a Road King Police but still has the horn unit and Police badges on it. I tell him it's illegal and he's setting a bad example for his students (yep, MSF instructor) but he keeps on blaring the siren when leaving the range.
