Picking up my first Harley

Hello

I am looking to purchase my first Harley however I am still unsure of the best route. I currently have a CBR600 and while fast, I generally find I don't use the speed...especially in D.C. Honestly there is no location to let the power loose and fairfax county cops HATE sport bikes. I am looking for something to cruse on the weekends and take out when traffic isn't nuts.

I was thinking of a sportster model however I am getting the impression I will outgrow that fast. I like the look of the nighster however the street bob catches my eye more. Additionally, the street bob is an affordable bike.

Does anyone own a street bob? How well do you like it?

Suggestions are welcome.

Street Bob no,uncomfortable, get a 1200 sportster, but the better ride is a
wide glide

I know a few guys who have Street Bobs and ride them daily, they find them comfortable. Personally the Softtail and Dyna models seem relatively comfortable, but the controls are usually a little short for my 6'2 frame.

Are you looking for a performance cruiser? Or just a "hang out and relax" cruiser?

I test rode the Nightster. Didn't like it due to the fact that I was folded up like a scoop with the foot peg and handlebar positions. It made staying on the bike difficult and tiresome even before getting to highway speeds.

I agree with xdixiecratx about the Sportster 1200, great ride. My preference would be the roadster version.

With the weakened economy there should be plenty of good used examples of whatever Harley model you are interested in coming on the market.

How much money are you looking to spend? Harley has two new models
for 09. the xr 1200 and the xL 1200 both are larger than the regular
Sportster and have a price of 10,800$. And I might add the larger fuel tank
is quite attractive..Check em out.

That wasn't a Street Bob, it was a Fat Bob.

I'm not a Harley fan, but to me, the XR1200 gets pretty close. The power-to-weight ratio is kinda off compared to the Italian, Austrian and Japanese competition, but still, it's probably Harley's best effort yet.

Now, if they put the Rotax motor out of the Buell CR1125, they'd really be on to something! :-)
