Has anyone ever tried Iridium spark plugs? I have to change the ones in my 01 bandit, and I came upon some iridium plugs from NGK. The only down side I can see is the cost (10-15/plug), and I was just wondering if it was worth it.

My wife's car was equipped with iridium plugs when new. At 36,000 miles they were due for replacement, and the only place I could find them was at the dealer. They wanted $15/each so I did a little shopping around. I cross-referenced a set of NGK platinums for $2 per plug at AutoZone. Guess which ones I bought. Runs great and gets the same fuel economy it always did.
That said, I know that NGK can use a slightly finer electrode using iridium than with platinum. That may result in a better quality spark, but so far I don't see enough difference to justify the cost. :twocents:

The plugs will show you no performance gains. Some people even say that very thin electrode-type(like all rare metal plugs) plugs are easier to foul since there is such a small working area. Dunno about that, but they don't offer any real benifit over regular NGK's or similar brands. Save your money for beer when you change the plugs.
