2004 & 2005 Yamaha R1 Engine Cut Out Problem

There is a huge thread about this at R1-Forum.com and since the initial post in September 2004 they seem to have norrowed it down to the two TPS sensors (both identical) and it looks like Yamaha have now revised this sensor twice, so three versions. Part numbers can be found on page 28.
Yamaha don't seem to be taking responsibility for this potentially dangerous problem or offering much assistance.
At present it is affecting mainly 2004 models after around 1,500 miles, but can happen initially at different mileages and then intermittently thereafter.
I have been thinking about getting either an 04 or 05 R1 recently, but since reading about this it is very disconcerting and is putting me off getting one at all.
Does anyone here know anything about this?
Any UK experienced this or know of people who have (only one UK and European bike is mentioned in the thread, predominantly US as US forum)?
All information greatly received.
