They also give credit to the 83 Honda Shadow as being the first V-2, BUT Harley built one in the late 50s that resembled a Yamaha Virago (prototype that they only built 6, one is still in HDs factory museum)"V-twin" to mean the classic V design of a shared crank pin for each pair of cylinders and "V-2" to indicate a boxer-style crank with a separate crank pin for each cylinder

A V twin uses a single crank pin and female and male rods so both cyl are perfectly lined up, a V-2 uses a two offset rods like a car motor.

Oh yeah, something about their name has never really sounded right thanks now I can put my finger on it, it seems that Harley has a knack for doing the wrong thing and getting away with it. BUT I think that they were misusing motor another way. It is also a term meaning motorcar, and I believe HD was trying to identify with the auto industry. Remember that back then most manufacturers made Motocycles unlike Harley who made MotorcyclesIf we took everything by it's true literal definition, the Harley Davidson Motor Company is actually named wrong.
A motor by it's true definition cannot be powered by fuel. It must be powered by another form of input source, such as electricity, a flow of hydraulic fluid or compressed air.
