Friction Zone too far out

Hi! I'm excited as heck, just got my first bike last night. It's a 2005 Yamaha Virago 250. The clutch engages very far out on the travel of the clutch lever. Is this typical of these models? Is there any adjustment other than the obvious free-play nut at the cable attachment?

Got home near midnight - had to drive 3 hours each way to get my baby. Have to work today, and I'm itching to ride. It's gonna be a long day!

Yeah that's typical for that bike. Not to worry though, you'll get used to it and be puttin' around in no time!

Yes. Consult an online owners manual. There is another place to adjust, down by the shift pedal. I just had to adjust the free play screw by the clutch lever. I have a 2003 Virago 250 (just got it a few months ago) and had to do this. I love learning how to ride on this bike.

We found that adjustment and with a little tweaking found the "sweet spot." Had a lot of fun yesterday trying it out!

Rode around a parking lot to get used to it, then messed around town some. Went out to breakfast, and shopping for some chaps. Then took in on a country road where I could actually get it up to 5th gear and 55mph.

Woo Hoo!I wonder what the neighbors think . . . Grandma's gone wild!
