Gears Sticking???

I probably have posted this before...but...
I have a 06 shadow spirit.
Sometimes when I try to shift up from 4th to 5th, it won't go. The funny thing is sometimes when I go to downshift, then it was already in 5th gear...i've never quite figured out wth is is going on... and yes, i am counting right! LOL
is there any chance that it's skipping gears? 4th to 5th?
i have no idea anymore, i'm loosing my marbles!~!!
help me figure this out!
