6' 260 lbs. ninja 250?

#1 Unread post by darek »

Hello everyone. I've just recently started to use these forums on a regular basis and great forums they are.

I have a couple questions to ask.

I guess first of all I should say that I plan on purchasing my first MC this summer and I'm a little torn as to which ones I should consider.

I honestly would prefer to start out on something like a ninja 250 but with my ''largeness'' I'm not so sure a 250 would be the best bike for me. I would go for a 500 but with all the rumors I'm hearing about its future- or lack there of, and everyone says that if you're considering a 500 just get the 650r.
So I guess my main question would be: How would a ninja 250 be for a 6' 260 pound person? I would perfer if my first bike could do highway speeds for sustained amounts of time, but if not I can always just upgrade a year later.

And yes, I do plan on taking my local MSF course before riding in traffic- I think everyone should.

I'll prolly think of more questions to ask, but for now I think thats it :)

Thanks to everyone in advance.

Don't worry about the future of the bike you want, worry about the past, the one that tells you whether or not it's reliable. 500s are basically bulletproof. And trust me they'll handle you with no problem. I've been over 100 on the least powerful 500 out there and I'm about 50 lbs heavier than you... Basically get what you want within reason.

Hello, fellow Coloradan.

Thanks for the tips. Looks like I'll be checking out the ninja 500 soon :)

My first bike will also prolly be my only bike for several years, so one with a little more ''go'' is prolly a good idea.( Like the 500/650's as opposed to the 250's )
