Edmonton-area metric mechanics

Hey there people,
My bike needs some work that is unfortunately beyond my (extremely limited) mechanical abilities so I find myself needing to take it in somewhere.
Last time I looked into this, the few shops I checked out either said on the listing or mentioned when I phoned, that they only worked on Harleys. For metric bikes, is it basically a dealer or nothing, or are there some independent mechanics out there?
If anyone has a recommendation for a mechanic (dealer or otherwise) who is any good and won't send me to the poor house (you know, with the recession and all), I would be very thankful!
Doug
