Anyone know anything about them?
I'm looking to restore a salvage bike over the winter so I've been searching the auctions and finding the usual assortment of sportbikes. Today however I came across a 2004 Triumph Dayton 650. Top bid so far is $2900. Compared to some of the bikes on the site it's the best price by far, especially for an 04. Judging by the pictures the damage is mostly cosmetic. The bike itself is intact. Mainly, I know nothing about Triumph or their Daytona series. Any info/thoughts would be welcome.

Parts might be an issue, as there aren't as many Hinckley Triumphs built as other brands. I owned two of them; a '95 Thunderbird and an '01 Tiger and I found replacement parts to be fairly high priced. There isn't much on the aftermarket available for them. either (like engine internals and body parts for example).

BUT - they are fairly well built and once you restore it you shouldn't have much trouble with one. There are lots of owners groups out there for support - here's a good one to start with: T595 Net.

Thanks. I think I'm going to pass on this one as the bidding ends today and I don't have enough info, however it opened my eyes to new possibilities. I really liked the looks of it.

The Daytona 650 wasn't produced until '05. The '04s were 600s. I've been tempted to pick up a fixer upper from one of those auctions myself, but it always seems like someone else is willing to pay to much for it. Even doing the repairs myself would end up making the bike cost at least as much as a mint one....

Oh, okay, didn't know they changed the cc's from 04 to 05, that's how little I know about them. Thaks.

I know what you mean on price. I'm finding plenty of repairables and salvages, but I'm also finding price tags of over $4k on a totaled 600 sportbike. Doesn't make much sense to do that. I think this peaked my interest since it was only about $3k and it looked intact, the damage seemed to be the fairing and such.

Looks like I may just have to find a decent used one somewhere instead.

The sad truth is that alot of bikes sold at auction are sold for their serial numbers. Bent frames go for a surprising amount of money if they are clear title. You are competing against buyers who already have a straight bike but are lacking certain "legal requirements". Tough to compete against that......
