Switching to synthetic

I'm going to do an oil change on my used 2006 M50, I don't know what was in it previously so I'm going to assume it was synthetic. When I bought the oil the guy at the shop said I should soak the clutch in oil. Stupid question...what does that mean and how do I do that?

Thanks in advance

I don't know what the guy at the shop was on about. Soaking new clutch plates in oil is correct, but your plates are already coated with whatever oil is in there now. You're safe.

Just make sure the oil you use is safe for wet clutches and it will not be a factor, synthetic or not.

Haha yeah that makes no sense. The clutch lives pretty much directly under the oil fill so the clutch will automatically be soaked in oil as you pour it in.

Cool, thanks guys.
I know some about cars, very little about bike maintenance- obviously. I have a copy of the M50 manual but it didn't say anything about that so I figured I would see if someone here could enlighten me...thanks again

Yup, what they said. As far as oil goes, use bike-specific oil. Mostly because of the clutches being in the oil, if you use car oils it could potentially cause your clutch to slip. Otherwise change it and ride on!
