Problems with powder coating an air cooled motor?

Hey,

I want feedback but nothing pulled out of your "O Ring".

I have an XS 850 that I'm getting completed repainted, fixed up, upgraded etc and adding a sidecar. The motor has the typical I've slowly oxidized since 1980 look and it seems like the best option is to powder coat it. The local shops say it's fine but a few people have raised cooling concerns. What do you think? Yay or nay?

Properly applied powder coating will not affect the cooling of an air cooled motor to any significant degree. Especially an engine with good airflow around it and no bodywork trapping heat in at very slow speeds. A good coater will not over-apply the powder on an engine, and even if they did, it still won't be a problem unless the bike also has a heating issue like excessive leaness or such.

Sorry about the odor, but you really don't want to know where I pulled that out of.

I haven't decided. Here's the paint for the rest of the sidecar rig paint though (Crappy pics, apologize)

I didn't want it centered down the top. I wanted it all sidecar justified ;)

Yeah, that's about what I said the last time I got good-n-drunk and tried painting something too.

Seriously though, I do like it. Looks good.
