M90 question

I just purchased a brand new suzuki M90, I have put 250 kilometers on it, my question is when I short shift first into second then accelerate quickly( 1/3 throttle) it sounds like a rod bearing has gone, lots of knocking, I pretty sure it's not pinging, then once the rpm climbs (not sure of the rpm, no tach) the motor sounds fine. Hopefully there is nothing wrong as I love this bike. Any help would be appreciated

First of all......
Are your rpms too low to upshift? Is it lugging you hear?
Since it is still so new, ask the dealer about it....

I'm with Blues, it sounds like it could well be the knocking you sometimes get when lugging a motor.
She also has a good point about checking with the dealership when you get a chance. It doesn't sound serious, but it won't hurt to have someone check it out in person

Thanks people, I also thought perhaps I was lugging the motor, however the knocking continues for at least another 1000 rpm (estimate) the dealer rode it and said it was fine, maybe I need louder pipes?

You might try running premium fuel if you are not now, just to see if the added octane helps or not. If you already are... disregard....

My suggestion would be to "NOT" short shift the bike. Your manual will have suggested speeds for up and down shifting. Another idea would be to make a tach one of your priorities as an accessory.

Thanks people, I have run a tank of premium gas through the motor, no difference, the manual suggests I shift up from 1st to 2nd at 20km, 2nd to 3rd at 30km, 3rd to 4th at 40km and 4th to 5th at 50km, I shift around 10km higher in all gears. It knocks until the motor smooths out. When I accellerate slowly no knocking( I know don't accellerate so hard) I hate to think what is going to happen once the motors run in and I get to give it some welly, (sorry I'm Welsh, common term for thrashing it) Hopefully I will have got that crotch rocket attitude out of my system by then, and yes dr_bar a tach is a priority for me, thank you.

Honestly the suggested shift speeds on most bikes I've seen are WAY too low for the motors to be happy. That's for maximum fuel efficiency and making sure a valve will never be broken.
On my Suzuki Volusia 800 the suggested speeds were about the same.
I ended up shifting usually at about
1st - 2nd - 20 (24 kph)
2nd - 3rd - 35 (56 kph)
3rd - 4th - 50 (80 kph)
4th - 5th was pretty tall so usually about 65 or 70. (105-115 kph)
And those speeds were if I was just cruising. If I was on it I usually wouldn't shift until about 1.5 times those speeds.
Ya know if I decide to go with kph I can tell people I've been over 200... haha
