Bad "Memorial" Weekend for Bikers in Illinois

Well.... another bad holiday weekend for motorcyclists in Illinois.....

SIX bikers killed in accidents this weekend in IL. From what I read, it didn't appear any of them were the fault of the folks on the bikes (not a surprise). Actually one accident where six bikes were hit in one collison (rear ended by somone who didn't stop), in which one married couple (riding double) were killed, and the other four pretty banged up.

Folks.... there's just no such thing as being TOO careful out there.

Ride safe ! (please)
:(

Man, that stinks. To many people out there do not look for motorcycles or they are just not paying attention. I wish there were some stricter laws on driving while distracted.

It's not the laws it's the idiot drivers who don't pay attention. There are laws against drunk driving but how many people are arrested every year for DUI in the US? Tens of thousands? People need to take driving seriously and I'm not sure how you can legislate that.

Failure to stop - talk about the most basic skill in driving.

You know at work my boss is a regular in believing that making an example out of people will get the herd in line.

They really should make an example of a person that hits multiple bikes from behind. I mean how can you not notice a fleet of motorcycles stopped in front of you?

The V Star I recently bought had the pipes modified to be noisier that stock. At first I didn’t really like this but I got such a good deal on the bike I couldn’t complain. The guy I bought it from said, “Loud pipes save lives”. Recently I have had two incidents where this proved to be true. A guy was backing out on me not looking when he heard my bike and stopped and finally looked. The other day while in my truck I could hear a bike next to me but he was in my dead spot. Even when I turned to look I barely saw him. I’m a believer now.

Unfortunately the loud pipe approach is "on" all the time and pizzes everyone off, not exactly endearing us to the public.

I chose to install a loud (quad) horn that will penetrate anything when required, even at a distance. These things work like a dream on idiot lane changers.
