Hello, glad to be a part of TMW. Looks like a great site and looking forward to meeting new people and learning more about bikes.

Hi All,

I bought my very first bike yesterday, a Ninja 650R and I am scared to ride it as it seems so powerful. I passed my test last month, my first time on a bike.

Any advice on building confidence

Confidence will come with practice. Review the material you learned. Although your bike has the ability to go fast, it won't do so without your input.
Remember....you control the machine...not the other way around. Until you get to know what your motorcycle does, practice in a parking lot. You need to learn to use your throttle wisely. Practice your clutch/throttle control and slow speed maneuvering.
Have fun.

If you have not already done so, take a safety class, and practice practice, practice. You might be able to find some riders in your area that can give you some tips and pointers on gaining more confidence.
Please just dont try and keep up with a group if they are riding faster than you are. Make certain you have the trip plan on where they are going so you can meet up with them later and ride within your skill level.

I'll second that. No good meeting St Peter before everyone else.

Welcome..
