1986 Yamaha Virago - Cuts out/stall only for first few mile

I just bought this 1986 Yamaha Virago 700. When I start it and let it warm up for say 5 minutes. I take off and it stalls and jerks around for the first few miles and then it runs fine...I have tried allowing more time to warm up but it still does it...? I really like the ride and would like to get it fixed...Any help would be appreciated.
