Cleaning the windshield

I just picked up a real clean used bike. It is spotless at the moment and it doesn't look like its ever been ridden except on Sundays between 10 and 2. I know once I start riding it, its going to get bugs and grime on the windshield and I'm going to have to clean them off. Right now, the windshield is PERFECTLY clear and it would be nice to keep it that way. Has any found a way to clean their shields without scratching them??

Ride it on sundays between 10 and 2. Seriously, It's gonna get dinged and all kinds of road grime. When i'm on the interstate i just use the stuff at gas stations like any car guy does. When i'm home hit it with windex, rainx, or whatever. I ride my bikes more then drive my cars so i expect them to get nasty.

Plexus plastic cleaner. Great stuff, most motorcycle shops sell it.

My windshield does not obstruct my line of sight, so I don't worry about keeping it perfect. Usually I hit it first when I wash the bike, checking to make sure the mitt is free of grit and debris. I've used Plexus too, it seems to work pretty well.

Before you start cleaning the windshield, you might want to take a large water-soaked rag (I use half a pair of old sweat pants) and leave it on for about 5 minutes to soften up the bugs...

Good thought. Do you soak the rag in any particular type of soap??? Or do you just use plain water?

I use plain water. Some soap might damage the plexiglass for all I know...

Yes, I know this thread is three years old....
I recently had to clean a lot of dead dried bugs from my windshield...
I soaked a big cloth in water and then let it sit on the windshield while I washed some other parts of the bike. Once I washed the windshield with the soapy water and dried it...I used Meguiar's Plast-X. It is great for the windshield as well as the face shields on helmets.
