New BMW owner

Hi ... I got my R1200R June 5, 2009. I bought it from Alamo BMW in San Antonio, Texas. I live in Central Louisiana in a small town named Hessmer 500 miles from Alamo. Hessmer was founded around 1925 and is the only high ground for perhaps 10 miles. In 1925 that was real important.
Alamo BMW sold me the bike and then purchased and installed a Pingle Shifter on my R free to me. I could not pass the deal up. This is my first bike. I needed an electric shifter because I am handicapped. I am an above knee amputee (left) and so could not shift the bike without the shifter. I have put about 400 miles on the bike and got it with 80 miles on it. They put the shifter on it and then tested the bike to make sure it was working properly. For the 400 plus miles and perhaps a hundred shifts I think it works pretty good; however I'll readdress this subject after the first 100,000 miles. Alamo sure did me a good turn. I much enjoy riding but haven't had the motor over 4000 rpms. I don't know sunshine from shoe shine about motorcycles but I sure like my R.
I took a class from a company called 'Top Gun.' Top Gun is located in Opalousus, Louisiana. The schoolis not a MSF school; however the founder is an ex-motorcycle policeman and the man how trained me is a motorcycle stunt rider. I tried the MSF classes but one gave me back my money after a days class and another would not let me take the class. I am 57 and have driven a car since 1968. I have never gone or sent anyone to the hospital nor totaled a car. But a minor accident in a car could be a different situation on a motorcycle
Alamo and Top Gun ... good people.
So, here I am.
