Any thoughs on the 2009 XR1200. Have a chance of getting one due to a customer forfeiting on a deposit.
From what I hear it has good things and bad things about it. That it is primarily a std Sportster in wolf's clothing. But to many people it has a coolness factor that can't be beat. I already have an idea of how I'd modify it. But would it be worth it?
I've sat on one but never rode it yet. I know it would fit me. Another forum said that I should get it just as an investment but in a way I'm looking for something new to take the place of my Buell. Can I make a low rent version of a Ducati with it?
Any thoughts would be helpful... Not as scary as the puchase of the ST1300A was. Just need a little insight into what the XR1200 is all about.

Well first off it's no standard sporty in XR clothing...
Better-tuned engine, MUCH better suspension, stiffer frame with less flex, etc.
The FI makes it very reliable.
From everyone that I know who's ridden one it's a great bike but only for short jaunts... 3-400 miles at most at a time.
I vote you get it and flat-track it!
Now since you're buying all of these bikes, mind sending one my way?

Kind of worried about the future of HD so I'm getting those that appeal to me now when dealers are willing ot deal and do a lot of cool stuff to get themselves out of the finacial hole. I don't know if this will happen again.
And with the dealer show July 21, we'll see if I made a mistake. Then I might be struggling to get out from one or two of them...
Except for the XR1200 which I'm getting now and Storz is going to get rich from me, all of my bikes were purchaced earlier in the year (all of them "spl" deals). And I'm back on track with the mods I want to do to them .
However, there is this 2007 SE Springer that I'm looking very hard at...
Add to this a '68 Austin Healey 3000 and a 67 Cheavy short bed pick up.
Of course it's cost me all of my scrounged Triumph motorcycle's and parts. Including my ex "historical" Pro racing bikes and my Cafe Racer (Factory Edition). Also, all my Sportsters and their parts. Even my rebuilt rice bikes are now gone including an CBR1000RR that had been dropped and the rider didn't want it anymore. All that leaves me, that is running, is my ST (ohh, I'm suffering), Buell S3 and an old style Shovelhead bobber/rat bike.
The only thing I worry about is that the new XR will be better than what I can build from my 2009 XR1200. We'll see but it would have to be really that much better to get me interested.
Anyway, who needs investments, retirement plans and health care.

Nice, with some luck with the financial processes, I'll expand my stable to 2 with an 08 VRSCDX. New bikes are so fraggin exciting!

You're getting a XR1200 too!
I've been following the XR1200 since it's conception and it's euro release.
I'm really curious to see what the XR1200X is supposed to be.

Night Rod Specials are too damn cool. I don't find them comfortable to control because the reach to the handlebars and the forward controls. However, my friend has one and can't be pried off of it. It is so fast that you can't believe it is a Harley. Water cooling, a buttery transmission and the sound from the pipes is awesome. After all the rides he got from me when he was thrashing about on Rice bikes, I got "ONE" measly ride and he followed me to make sure I didn't scatch it somehow.
I hope it all comes together for you.

That is the biggest question on my mind right now. The brochures say that it is a up powered Sportster with a more ridgid frame and much improved brakes. Everyone that has one says that I will love it. I can't get a ride on one so I'm doing this blind. However, I expect that it might be the basis of a really great Ducati chaser/beater. Storz has several kits that can be applied to it plus you can get one of several Power Commander type reprograming systems.
Tomorrow, I start putting it together and by Wensday I will have the answers to some of my questions.
I thought about pulling the heads off and having them reworked by an ex-factory tuner and then putting in a stronger cam but everyone talked me out of it. I've got an older Buell that is heavily breathed on. I can scare a moderate rider on a liter bike real bad. So If I just build it up stock to the best of my ability and then if I don't like it, I already have a few buyers for it.
It won't be the bikes fault but just my expectations. We'll see...
