Hi everyone - thoroughly enjoying all the reading here, and all the wisdom being shared - a few of you have already walked me through my riding 'beginnings'

I'm a noob, took the msf and passed 2 weeks ago or so and scouring craigs list for my first bike (got my eye on a 92 vulcan older but in great shape).

My new riding gear arrived over the weekend - fieldsheer perf leather with armor, and joe rocket textile overpants with hip padding and knee armor. (full face helmet arriving at store on tuesday)

question about the jacket- it fits all around, except the arms - elbow armor hangs low (arms are a bit long) ... i'm guessing when i sit on the bike it will be in the right place, but its not adjustable, and if i happen to 'need' it , should it be in the right place (on elbows) when at rest as well as when on the bike?

umm, also, im a pretty big guy, so to get the body to fit, sometimes the arms of things tend to run a bit long :P

Thanks everyone!

Are your arms hanging to your sides? or up in front as though you were holding handlebars? If they're by your sides, the arms of the jacket should be a bit longer because they'll shorten up when you lift your arms to reach the handlebars (sort of like a suit). Some of the armor parts on the jacket/pants might not be in the right position when you're standing around, but they should be in the right position when you're on a bike.

What do you mean it's not adjustable? you can't push them around at all? If there's no way that you can get them to fit in a good position, you might want to see if you can try some other sizes.

I'm not sure who this mythical 'average person' they use as a fitment dummy is, but I have never seen him.

Every piece of gear I have ever bought needs some adaptation to fit me properly. I have added velcro to armour and their pockets to keep it in place for my own oddly configured self. Trimmed edges, pinned liners... whatever was needed to keep everything where it needs to be.

Custom made stuff is probably different, but I (and most people) buy off the rack. Another reason I don't like buying gear online. It is best to try it on beforehand. Too bad dealers make it so dam hard by having poor size selection in stock......

I meant - there aren't adjustable 'pockets' for the elbow guards, like there are for the knee guards in the pants. Thanks for the advice all :)
