Wrecked bikes, low km's

I was in the local dealership today and there were a couple of bikes that had been wrecked but looked almost brand new....
One that caught my eye was this zx6r monster edition because the owner was selling the bike back to the dealership to get it off his hands. My buddy and i guess the kilometers on wrecked bikes as a game but this one blew my mind.

Anyone else seen bikes with this low of km's wrecked already? Kinda makes me sad to see such nice machines back in the dealership after only a few hundred km's.

I haven't seen that... But I might not be looking. Hell, even I have 650 or so miles on my bike and I wouldn't even consider selling it yet, an I've dropped it twice (Mostly repaired).
Hell, I wouldn't even consider that I 'know' my bike with 650 miles on it. I think I 'knew' my Kawasaki after about 2000 miles.
But you know, I think some people were joking about the new V-Max and waiting for the noobs to buy them, get scared of it and then buy them used for low dollars.

I saw a brand new BMW LT totaled with 0.6 miles. The bike had been flipped over when ramp kicked out loading it into a pickup in the parking lot of Dealer. Lucky for the guy that bought it insurance covered and he got another in two days. I only saw aftermath sitting in dealers back lot.
insurance wrecks...

Totaled motorcycles are a fun game to play if you have an eye for telling what parts are trashed and if you're a good wrench to put a machine back together out of 2 or 3 machines. Also salvage shops are a good place to find parts if you have one in your area. I have a 2009 Fat Boy that was crunched
and I just got the parts back from the paint shop today. It's a custom job and the total cost was less than $15k but the most expensive thing was custom paint. All the bikes that I bought for parts were totals. I was able to do it by dealing with the insurance companies directly but auctions are a good place to start. However, there's no guarantee or warranty so you're on your own. But I was going to breath on it hard anyway. Just a thought for the adventurous.

In 1990 I was taking in my then new Ninja for a first service when I passed the front of the shop on route to the back alley to get to the back. I noticed a salesman giving the once through to a guy sitting on another brand-new Ninja out front as I was going by. After dropping off my bike in the back of the shop, I walked through to the front to witness the guy with the new bike picking it up in the middle of the street (Edmonton Trail), after crashing while trying to cross the street to get fuel. After picking it up he was shaken and actually dropped it on the other side right there in the street! That has to be some kind of record for the most damage inflicted in the shortest time
The bike ended up sitting in the back of the shop for most of the summer.....waiting for parts. Ouch.

Saw a Busa completely totaled with less than 2 miles on it.
Some noobie decided a Busa was the best bike for him, it had 1 mile on it (initial mechanic test ride). He made it about 200 yards down the street when he hit a pothole, whacked the throttle WFO, and proceeded to total everything on the bike.
Plastics, subframe, radiator, swingarm, I mean everything.

And that one kid who kept coming here arguing still can't understand why a newbie doesn't belong on a big bike.

There ought to be a law about describing something so painfull.

I've had similar experiences. I'm just a girl and yet I ride big bikes so how can any red blooded Ameican male not be able to jump on to anybike jjust muscle it into doing what he wants. Just because!
Actually a year ago, a late twenties man wallked into the shop and saw that I had just moved a CBR100RR on to the sales floor after I had serviced it. He looked at me and asked me if I could ride it. I wasn't trying to be mean and without thinking I said yes but it was a bit much to handle. He instantly knew the bike was for him. If A girl (why am I never a woman?) could ride it, he could. Everybody in the shop tried to talk him out of it but he was insistant. Finally the owner just gave up and did the deal with him. The salesman took him into the back yard and tried to give him a little instruction in how to ride it. Well, the guy kept stalling it and thought it was underpowered. (I'm not making this up) so he grabbed a handful of throttle and tried to launch himself skyward. Finally, the bike dropped and he was so frightened he just left it there. I don't think he ever rode again. Well, when the insurance was all done, the bike was totaled and I bought it for pocket change. I rode it as a street fighter for a while then sold it to a kid with more money than sense and his daddy fixed it up for him. I never heard from the kid again. I suppose he lived through the experience but dunno...
Kind of sad all the way round. Of course where I'm going to be working it's going to stop being sad and start being heart breaking.

Thats brutal! Too bad about his bike, thats worse than that ninja i found at blackfoot. I know the feeling about having your bike wait for parts at the dealership though.....
should be back to me this friday though....
