Drum Brake

2007 Virago 250cc

I decided it was time to address the squeak issue coming from my rear brake. I followed the manual, used brake kleen to clean out the black powder/dust. Inspected the pads and use a 400 fine grit sand paper on the inside drum, just once or twice around. I was afraid to over-do it.

Put everything back together. All parts accounted for and I didn't have any extra washers laying around. Taking the bike out for a test ride around the neighborhood in the morning.

About the only thing I did that wasn't mentioned in the manual was to put a small amount of lithium grease where the axle passes through the swing arms(?). I also added a dab of medium (blue) lock tight on the torque arm bolt. It wasn't the kind with a cotter pin as the manual illustrated.

Checked and adjusted the chain. Anything I should pay special attention to during the test ride? Hubby will follow to see if anything visually looks amiss.

Sounds like you did a great job. You did have somebody sitting on the bike when you checked the chain tension, didn't you? :)

The test ride went great. :D Um, regarding the chain tension. I sort of leave it on the loose side.
