Delay in gas to power ?

#1 Unread post by rickyh »

When I give my motoryclce gas, it takes it a sec or two for the engine to respond.

For instance, if I'm in neutral and all of a sudden I give it some gas, for about a second, it'll be like I haven't touched it, stays the same sound and all, and then revs up.
It's like it's delayed or something.

This happens on and off with it.

Stabbing in the dark...... jetting too rich(pilot jets)?, choke sticking?, air screws out of adjustment? carbs out of balance? time warp messing with your perception?

You'll have to forgive me, I have no mechanic background and am a newb to motorcycles

What does 'jetting to rich' mean ?

I don't think the choke is sticking, I don't know what air screws, or carbs are.

Is this bike under warranty? That would be the best solution right now.

Jets are parts that regulate how much gas your engine gets and carbs mix the gas with air and the jets are in the carbs and you really should invest in a service manual for your bike if you plan on working on it yourself.

Trying to explain how to check/adjust these things right now would probably get you into more trouble than you got right now. A service manual and some googling for home mechanics sites will help you understand what is happening to your bike for any future adventures yo have. 8)

Duly noted, I shall purchase a manual asap, also will do the googling thing, thinking about taking a motorycle mechanics course to, if nothing else to familiarize myself with terms and the like.

'Zactly. Nothing wrong with working on your own bike(admirable, even), but you can save yourself a world of hurt if you arm yourself properly.

Well, ahem, I have resolved my issue.. uh hehe.. it was... that I had the gas guage set to reserve..so even though I had a full tank it wasn't going through all the way.

wait.... even if you have a full tank *AND* its on reserve, you should still not be having throttle response problems.

Look up the manual in any case.
