Ok first off my computer is in the shop, my Harddrive got pwned by a magnet.... and to add to it this is the first time our internet has worked in a week......

So, first off i'm gonna change my friend's brake pad in the rear of his 2001 Suzuki Bandit 600s and i was wondering, what all tools am i going to need to work on it?

and secondly, Can anyone give me an estimate of the differences in riding position between a 1983-85 honda nighthawk 650 and a 2004 honda 599?

I think my dad was trying to dissuade me from getting one by saying it probably has a more forward riding position and it would be very tiring. though what i hear is the 599 has a rather upright standard riding position.
Anyone have any first hand experience on both of these bikes?

Just a set of metric sockets, probably a pair of needle-nose pliers, and a C-clamp to push in the brake piston(s). If you're just changing the pads it's really pretty cut-and-dry.

They're both standards...though the 599 is a little more forward biased...but nothing an inexpensive set of aftermarket bars can't fix if it bothers that much.

I've never ridden the nighthawk, but in the last... month I've put 2000km on the 599. And it isn't really forward biased. It's virtually straight up and down if you go off the handlebars, if you go off the pegs you'd lean forward a LITTLE more, but not a lot. In my normal stance I just lean forward a little bit, if you shift around on the seat you can choose between straight up and down (balls to the tank) and bent over at 45 degrees (shoved to the back of the seat). If you really want to know about the 599 take a lookit my blog. I've got most of my thoughts on the bike put down there. The link is in my sig. It's a great bike though.

$1000 huh? Getting the 599 knocked $80 off mine for some reason....

I have ridden both and they are quite similiar. Best thing to do is ride one for youself and you'll truly feel a superior bike. In Vancouver I have noticed they have dropped the selling price by $1000.00.......enough for your insurance! The 599 is much more powerful and I believe much lighter than the old Nighthawk. Both models are typical Euro Sport Touring bikes-a more upright riding position, unlike most sport bikes where your leaning over the tank.

yeah i called my ins company and asked them about it, they called it a sport bike and said since its a high performance bike thats why there was such a jump.

To my suprise i have full coverage on my nighthawk, which is around $300 a year. so if i could somehow save up 5 grand and get one, "as i can't afford a monthly payment" i may be able to not have full coverage and once i take that MSF course my insurance will go down.

there is hope yet, so if anyone wants to give me 5 grand.....

ok, so i did a quote thing on the progressive website. I tried to insure a 599, but the only model they had was a 919, $700 somthing for "all riders accept no fault" and $175 for "no riders accept no fault". what is that no fault stuff, and thats liability only. so there is hope yet!

Have you tried looking down the back of the sofa (invite all your richest friends round for tea first though, to see if you can bump up the sofa cash jackpot)
