I started motorcycle riding a 3 weeks ago on a Daelim VS 125cc....In Seoul, Korea....naturally, they don't have any MSF certified courses I know of aside from the military...and I'm a civilian working here(can't join it).

There a lot motorcycle riding schools, but I heard they're aimed at training delivery boys(very common here) to pass the license test...rather than keeping you alive.

I'm reading David L. Houghs proficient motorcycling series and watching some youtube videos....but after laying down my bike twice, I'd really need to find a video and book series to help me train myself in more saftey techniques.

Any help guys?

Go to their library - http://www.msf-usa.org/index_new.cfm?sp ... me=Library - and take a look at the material there. You can read (but not print out) the Basic RiderCourse handbook.

There is a LOT of valuable material in the MSF riding tips document, including some of the more important exercises that are done during the BRC: http://www.msf-usa.org/downloads/Riding_Tips.pdf

A major thing this does NOT give you, though, is the benefit of a pair of experienced eyes watching you perform the exercise and evaluating how well you did it (or how you could improve). I took the BRC, and I was impressed by the insights shown by the RiderCoaches. I learned both from their comments on my riding, and by looking for what they might be looking for when my classmates were riding.

Under what circumstances did you lay your bike down?

Or find a good parking lot. 35 years ago we didn't have all the stuff you guys have now and we managed just fine.

Finding an empty parking lot in Seoul is VERY hard...I've can't say I've ever saw one...even at night....I might have to leave the city for that...there are empty underground places, but they're guarded.

1st time: Jay walking, Crazy guy stood in the middle of the street 1/4 a mile away. Looked at me and the rest of the traffic clearly....I slowed down anyway, but figured he was going to cross....then he just stood there talking to his friends with arms wide apart(?!) and it was clear he wasn't gonna move....I panicked, braked, turned sideways. Slid with the bike. VERY minor road rash on my arm...Guy ran away very fast... If I was in a SUV, I would killed him likely. I heard some people try to get into accidents so they can sue the driver for blood money....this guys sounds like it.


2nd time...A thin street turned from a 2 way into a one way thanks to cars parking on the sides...I was being stupid and didn't come to a stop and check to see who was coming....I was in the middle of a turn when a car came out...stupidly I pulled the brakes and fell at slow speed. minor road rash in the area of my jeans with "holes" in them.

I'm really wishing I didn't get those engine guards removed(interfered with my big feet and shifting).

I did pull off a pretty nice emergency stop I learned when a truck came speeding out in a alley...

I'm in Asia, I deal with all sorts of crazy situations....David L. Hough could probaly put out another edition of proficient motorcycle riding on driving through Asia alone...
