Riding to Keystone, CO in a couple weeks for an event. My local BMW club does annual year long riding/scavenger hunts. One year is was county seats, another it was stuff from the wacky/weird US books,

This year it is ELEVATIONS. Prize to the greatest # of feet total. Plus highest/lowest single. I might actually have a chance at a top finisher for this one, on this trip. But, I'm wondering how regularly there are elevations posted along the highways out there, and are there pull offs?

I saw where the Colorado Beemers are doing a 100K ride this coming week. I tried to just get a route sheet for that, but no response. Anybody got an "in" for that or a suggested route?

Well the highest pass in Colorado is Independence Pass at 12,095. Then you can do the Mount Evans Scenic Byway that tops out at 14,160. (50 feet higher than the summit of Pikes Peak btw) As is the highest city. (Leadville, CO sits at 10,200) I think you have a very good chance of getting high/low here as the lowest point is around 4k feet then clear up to 14K feet. Not many places can you go 10K feet in a day. All of those roads are paved too, so no need to worry about riding in the dirt.
Can't help you on the beemer ride, but I'd suggest trying Independence Pass and Wolf Creek passes because they're absolutely beautiful.

Though the elevation isn't quite as high I definintely recommend taking CO 14 between Ft Collins and Walden (known locally as poudre canyon). Very pretty drive, VERY tight twisty road.

Both routes going to Estes Park are nice too, I would suggest making a right at the fork if your coming from Loveland as there is a lot less traffic on that side. Once you reach Estes Park you can cut down on 34 and head back out towards Longmont on another very nice canyon ride (my personal favorite, not a lot of traffic, and the pavement isn't all torn up like most of the other mountain roads up there). You can of course continue taking 34 down to Idaho springs and catch the Mt Evans byway.

You can also get to Idaho springs by a slightly longer way by heading out to Walden then cutting south towards winter park, virtually zero traffic until you get near winter park, traffic does get bad near winter park.

I already found some really cool looking roads... someone over on Sport-touring.net posted an AWESOME file. And then there's the road up Mt. Evans, and the Pike's Peak road. The two of those make almost 30,000 feet!

AH! The problem with THAT link is that its a "buy prints" kind of site (like killboy). And vanlaar makes it impossible to even link to the proof location. If you've got pics that YOU've posted someplace (like here on the TMW galleries) you can do what I suggested.
