When I wished I had my bike the most

I just got back from a week on the Outer Banks, Kitty Hawk to be specific, and I didn't take my bike.

It was the family vacation so the wife and kids and a neice was with me. I thought of riding down, but the wife would have none of being in the van with 3 kids for 13 hours by herself. And our little mini van wouldn't be able to trailer the bike either.

Once we arrived there on a Saturday day night, I musta seen over 500 riders cruising up and down 158 and Beach Road. I was jealous and really had wished I would have been able to take the bike. It would be wonderful to cruise highway 12 all the way up to Corolla and back down to Ocracoke.

Anyway it was a great vacation in my favorite place in the world and I still had a wonderful time. Next year I want to ride down for the OBX bike week. Hopefully I'll be up for a 13 hour ride. :)

Vacations without a bike seem sort of empty, don't they? My wife and I spent several days at Pinehurst a few weeks ago. Same as you, I couldn't take the bike. It was a nice getaway for us, but I missed my bike the whole time. I took a 300 miler the very next day after we got back home - aaahh! I guess absence really does make the heart grow fonder!

Last year we took a family trip to see friends, and on the way there I rode my bike, and on the way back my husband rode it. It works out since we both ride. We have also had the "nobody's riding" trips, and yes, it's hard to handle. Every bike that roars by seems like it's taunting me. But... family does come before my bike in the big picture.

Cheers,

I'm going to the Grand Caymen in Aug. for 10days. I think I'm going to rent a scooter when I'm there.... The island is only 20 miles long and 7 miles wide in its widest spot!.... Cant wait... Hey a scooter is better than nothing right?

Yea I'd say that is OK :) When we were in the Smoky Mountains a few years ago, my wife and I drove into Gatlinburg and rented scooters for the day. It was fun.

I looked into renting a motorcycle for the week when I got to the Outer Banks but it was a bit out of the budget :D

Enjoy your trip!

You know, it's funny. I went 15 years and did fine without a bike, now that I've had it a month it's killing me to be seperated for a few days while it's being serviced. I can feel your pain.

There should be some sort of worldwide support group for just this sort of thing.

We're taking vacation in July to the lake and while I'm excited to go, I'm not looking forward to the drive out since I know the roads leading to the cabin are just awesome and would be a blast to ride.
