can keep the go power

Ok Ive got a problem where I can all of a sudden only start my bike with starter fluid and then it runs for almost exactly 2 miles and then slowly runs with less and less power till it finally stalls.
I originally thought this would be a gas related problem so I put dry gas in and then I put in more later (way too much overall) and I checked my inlinbe fuel filter which is clear and obviously gas is running though. I also am pretty sure the carburator is functioning because it runs the starter fluid though.
The other thought that my friend suggested is the pick up coil, which I can test I guess but I dont even really know what it does really.
Any how I havent actually looked at the bike since I got it home, just hoping you all had some good insight.
PS after my bike broke I had to ride on the back of my friends cbr600F4i for and hour and get my truck. oooooooooo boy I never thought I would dislike motorcycles so much as I did after that ride
