Spraying a Helmet

.. NOT painting it.

I have some "Scent Killer" spray that I use while hunting to kill bacteria-caused (sweat) odors. It is basically a hydrogen peroxide spray.

Does anyone know if this is safe to spray inside a motorcycle helmet on the foam to kill odors? It certainly does no harm to my hunting clothing or gear. I have no reason to believe it would harm the inside of a helmet, ...

.... BUT I WANT TO BE SURE.

Thanks.

Stuff like febreeze and the like should not harm the foam. Your local bike shop may also have some helmet fresheners so check there first.

There are actually a few helmet companies that make a helmet freshening spray. I know we have one at the shop, I'll see if I can't find it tomorrow and tell you what it is.

I always put dryer sheets in my helmet before I put it back in the helmet bag. Smells pretty good.

I pulled all the pads out of my helmet and washed them. Now they smell like a fresh spring mountain pass with a hint of citrus.

I always wear a durag so my helmet liner doesn't get my sweat or oil from my hair. It's not 100% but it sure helps.

I used Febreeze on my helmet liner but it took too long to dry. Another thing I did was wash my hair before every ride and my helmet began smelling like shampoo. Hopefully those helmet fresheners will kill bacteria and dry quickly.

My helmet started smelling like a Strawberry Shortcake for some strange reason. I don't even remember spilling anything in it or near any food.

When I first glanced at the subject to this thread I thought it said, "speying a helmet." It did strike me as a good idea to avoid having little unwanted helmets running around the roads.

But, two points. Helmet Fresh is very good IF you begin using it before the helmet develops funk. Afterwards, about the best you can do is Febreez. I wouldn't wear one for a few days after spraying it with Febrezz though.
