Hello everyone! I need some help finding an ultra-lite half helmet for my wife. I'm looking for something in the 1lbs 6oz. range. Harley sells them but they are $235 usd and I was hoping I might be able to find something a bit cheaper in price but still DOT certified. KBC manufactures the H.D. helmet but can't even find one on their site. They are nice and light and I wouldn't even mind having one for myself. Anyway, anyone know where I can get one online or here in Lancaster county, Pa.? Thank you for any help.

You can try Daytona Helmets...I have one and it seems to be solidly built. It is DOT approved and is allegedly the smallest half helmet available with the DOT endorsement.

I use to wear a Skid lid, they are lite and are cheap.

Why?

Those half helmets comply with the law, but don't offer the protection of a full faced helmet.

I wouldn't let my wife wear one.

Also, at least blue jeans and a riding jacket.

Even a slow spill can damage skin and face. Most women I know like to remain undamaged.

Something to think about...

I remember the Hurt report saying something to the effect that in crashes, 40% of the first impacts to the head were on the face. So a half-face would be ineffective for those types of impacts. Something to think about. My last GF's mother wrecked with a half face and had to get her lower jaw rebuilt, and her face has never been quite the same.

That info really hit home! That's one of the things I love about this site is so many fellow riders wanting to help and bring up things that may have been overlooked. I have been out of town and as soon as my wife gets home, I'll be showing her your responses. Thanks again for the reality check!
