Hi everyone from Victoria. I posted earlier to tell everyone about my amazing green bicycle- yeah, you read right.

Well now I finally have myself a motorcycle which I'm loving every minute of it. I am the proud owner of a 2003 Suzuki GS500 with uber-low km's and great shape.

The only sad thing about the bike is that I wiped out on it going around a bad corner and scratched it up a little, as well a bent handlebar. I got a couple bone chips in my elbow and hip, a minor scrape, but all is well XD. I will be repainting anything the couple spots and replacing the handlebars when I have some money. Still love the thing; if anything, the accident (after all, who intends to wipe out purposely?) has given me a whole new found respect for the machine on top of what I already had for it, because I now know how quickly something unexpected can happen.

Bad corner?

Did you do that MSF course yet?

Yeah I did take the MSF course. It was actually the first investment into the motorcycle world I did. And when I mean it was a bad corner, I mean that it had gravel on it and I was scared as I didn't know how to deal with gravel and it was already a tight corner I had leaned into and it just ended with me on the pavement sliding along on a highway. In short, I was very lucky that day.

Those are the kind of conditions your going to find all the time. It sounds like you entered the curve too fast, then low-sided the bike. It could have been worse.

It wasn't that I entered the corner fast as I entered the corner at the wrong lane position. I was on a highway and the lousy excuse for a barricade wouldn't have done anything to stop me from going into oncoming traffic had I fallen over low side. I somehow managed to get the angle of my trajectory towards the other side of the road using a combination of breaks and sheer madness, but the result of the brakes in the corner caused me to slam down onto my left side. I believe that's the high side since I was going around a right hand turn.

I know I was extremely lucky as people love to go 20-30 km over the speed limit on this highway as the general pace and I could easily have been hurt/killed. As to how I managed to get the motorcycle on a non life-threatening trajectory, I don't know if I'll ever fully understand how I managed that. And for my speed, it was around 65 km/h in a 60.

The worst part about it is that I know that this could have been avoided had I been in the 3rd lane position. If anything I can learn from this, it's how conscious you have to be of where you are on the road at all times.
