Safer Salute to Fellow Bikers

I love the comraderie among motoryclists and the hand wave that I interpret as "Hey there fellow biker, lovely day for a ride, enjoy yourself and be safe". Amazing what you can convey with a simple hand gesture :)

On occasion I've gotten the salute or performed the salute and was a little nervous about taking my hand off the controls. While I want to be safe, I also don't want to have the other rider feel that I snubbed them.

So lately I've taken to doing a deep head/helmet nod. Almost like tipping your hat at someone. I like it and I think it works and I ask of you fellow bikers, try out yourselves. If you like it too spread the word :motorcycle2:

I'm trying to start a movement...

Well you can get anything you want, at Alice's restaurant.

That's pretty much what I do when my hands are busy.

I figure that if the other rider can't figure out that I mean respect, but that I'm a bit busy at the moment, well, ok, his/her problem.

Honestly, I've mostly had good responses from both. I even nod to pedestrians and get waves back. :)

I've been thinking about this a lot since my trip down to Florida and the fleets of motorcycles on the highways.

It got to the point that at 80 mph I had to hold my arm out so long it felt like it was going to fall off.

There is only one solution.

Get a high tension spring and attach it to your helmet with a giant yellow kitchen glove (stuffed). Then you can nod and it would be noticeable to everyone.

---have a nice day lettering optional.

Seriously, I do head nods, but it isn't as obvious to see as a hand/arm signal. I'm sure that over the years there have been a couple accidents from hand signals.

So I do both and sometimes I need to focus and do nothing.

Look up lyrics to Alice's Restaurant - or listen to the radio soon - Arlo Guthrie.

Unfortunately, I forget the three or four lines of the song, but it is really good. Something about if you get four people together to do something the government thinks it is a whole movement.

Now, if you do want to talk about BM.... I've been eating Boo Berry cereal lately and it has certain colorful properties if you eat enough of it...

That is most certainly not what I WANTED to talk about I was simply trying to rationalize something that didn't make sense to me. Ummm thanks for explaining it though :) it very clearly makes sense now.

You learned me some culture.

As a side note, really... Boo Berry cereal?? That stuffs like all sugar and food coloring. Plus I wouldn't want to be on my bike when that sugar high drops you like a stone. :P

Culture and bowel movements - all in one post. Alice's Restaurant is a big song over here around Thanksgiving time. Much better than those Christmas songs.
