I'm going to set my bike on fire!

What's the best way to do this to ensure it burns completely to the ground without any indication it was ever a motorcycle? No, not really. But yes, this is how I feel cause I am soooo frustrated with this thing. I have another post here somewhere. It hasn't been running right so I took apart the carbs and cleaned them and set the a/f needles to 2.5 turns out. I cleaned the filter, I put in new plugs with .025" gap and I adjusted the valves. Previously, it was fouling the plugs like crazy and running horribly. Before adjusting them, the a/f needles were 3 and 3.5 turns out. After all adjustments and repairs I fired it up today and guess what? STILL RUNS LIKE CRAP!! I had to pull the choke all the way out to get it to run and eventually it would just die. I checked the plugs and they were not fouled. Too lean? What do I do now??? :frusty:

BTW, it's a '07 Vulcan 500 w/1300 miles.

Off the top of my head... it does sound like it's running lean.

First you better check for air leaks in the intake tract. Start it up and spray something flammable like WD-40 or spray solvent around the carbs and intake boots and see if it changes the way it runs. If it does, you have a leak.

If no leak is found, the carbs are the next suspect. They may have not been cleaned (the jets particularly) enough the first time. Recheck the a/f screws, as well as the idle being set too low....? The air filter is clean, right?

Have you checked the valve lash? A tight lash on one valve could allow that valve to stay open slightly when the engine gets warm.

Also, make sure you got some nice, fresh fuel in the tank.

Just some guesses on stuff to try. Good Luck.

I think you should check the valve lash. Like what BuzZz said, " A tight lash on one valve could allow that valve to stay open slightly when the engine gets warm." All the things that BuzZz said are seconded by me. If I finish the searching about my problem about Refrigerator Water Filters I will try my best to go back in this thread.

Mad Mod says...

Why would you put a link to something so un-bike related here? Link terminated and next time is the last time you write anything on this forum. Am I being clear? Your asss is gone, permanently. For any unauthorized link.
