Ninja 250 oil change

Quick question for you gear-heads out there:

I just changed the oil on my 250 for the first time (sad, I know) and it's supposed to have a 1.9L tank for the oil, that you can see when it's full by looking through a little glass window.

I drained it, replaced the filter, etc, and when I added the new oil, I put in a bit over 2L and still saw nothing in the window. I stopped at that point because I don't want to overfill, but it definitely had more then the 1.9L in there.

Any tips/advice?

Do you have the bike standing straight up or is it sitting over on the stand?

With the Triumph Bonneville, the manual's stated oil capacity is strictly for the engine crankcase. It doesn't include the bit of extra oil need to fill up the filter. Maybe your Ninja is similar?

Like JStark says, there should be two specs for oil changes. On my Strom I think it's 2300ml if you don't change the filter, or 2900ml if the filter gets changed.

Your owners manual should give you both figures.

Yeah on those you have to put it straight up off of the stand, then start it up and make sure you run it for a few seconds, 30 should be fine, then check it again after it's filled up all of the oil crevices and tubes and such. :D
