Pulling the motor off of my nighthawk this weekend. First time pulling a motor off of a bike. any advice?

My plan is to try to slip some 2x6s under it with a couple of jacks for the motor to fall onto. Should I attempt it this way? or would i be better off building a tripod over the bike and and making a sling?

whichever way you go, might be a good idea to have someone else there to help catch/steady the motor when it actually comes out of the frame.

as i've never done that before, i can't offer much more help than that. sorry.

If you have a bike jack, put that under the engine and take the pressure off of the fasteners, other than that I'd use a car jack. If you don't have either of those, I'd definitely get a friend or two over to help you out and lift it/hold it while you're getting the last few fasteners off of each side.

Like Wrider said you definitely should use an hydraulic jack. You can make minute adjustments as you progress so you don't put undo stress on the bolts or the threads.

I push the bike onto a car tire so it's horiztonal (for my bike plastics, tank, carbs etc have to come out first), then undo it and lift the frame off. Really quick and easy.
