What ever you deside make sure that it mounts to the forks , not the handlebars...

I have a Memphis Shades Windshield. I believe it was less expensive than the Yamaha one.

You are probably better off with a tallish one.
Just in case you were interested to know a price so you can make a comparison.....
My Memphis Shade Windshield and the mounting kit cost $375.00.

With Memphis shades, I believe you also get a choice of wide or slim...
There are dealers all over Canada, but I think you can buy these right through your Yamaha dealer....
For a sample of their product line...

waited

Because I am a new rider I was told to wait a while before getting the windshield ,get used to the bike , shure enough I am getting used to the higher speeds without the windshield and have started to like anything 80km and down without one.Its just a matter of getting some experiance and feeling comfortable on my bike ,the more I ride the less I think I need one.Now I am thinking saddle bags are more important ,it would be nice to be able to tuck my jacket away somewhere instead of strapping it to my handlebars.I dont like being cought out without my coat when the sun starts to drop.

Saddle bags are without a doubt, extremely handy to have. A good windshield is also a valuable addition. I don't care for speeds over 80 km without one. With it, any speed is fine.
But you won't know till you try one. i had a fellow look at a bike i had for sale and he didn't want it because it had a windshield (not too bright I guess) I see him around from time to time and the bike he bought has a windshield and it's still on the bike after 4 months. What a surprise. Guess he changed his mind.

Either that or he really isn't too bright and can't figure out how to get it off.

Well I will probably be looking at windshields when the cooler weather hits ,its just a cash flow thing and what my needs are as they come up.Its not my only means of transportation,I drive the truck when its raining or cool out .I agree a windshield would be a must have if I were spending much time on the freeway but I stay in the sun and mostly on the contry roads around here.
Bug Guts

Another thing you may want to consider is the fact that if you are going to do any highway trips, your windshield will get most of the bugs instead of you.
By the time I got back from my daytrip through Manning Park to Keremeos and back yesterday, my windshield was so splattered with bug guts you could hardly see through it. Imagine if I had no windshield. Those bugs would be all over the front of me instead.
