Idle adjustment set too high? Sometimes engine vibration moves the idle setting over time. Turn it down. Adjuster should be near the fuel petcock.

Vacum leaks can cause this as well. I would just check to make sure the intake is ok and nothing is leaking vacum as this can lead to the bike running lean and hot and would not be good. Chances are that it is an idle problem but you would do well to check for an intake leak.

Ours did that, it was the idle adjustment. I did have to get new boots later on, they were cracked, but that showed up as stalling while idle, and some sluggishness at throttle--is that what you mean by an intake check, Brumbear?

This, of course, presumes that you have pushed the choke back in after a cold start. That would be my first check. There is a halfway point on the choke that has an automatic stop in it. Make sure you push all the way back. (Voice of experience . . . )
