Releasing Clutch Cable End

I'm looking to lube the clutch cable. I turned the adjuster so that the clutch lever is hanging loosely, but how do I "fish" out the cable, so that I can get the lube onto it? Is there right way and a wrong way? I've got the slots lined up on the adjuster, the lock nut and the lever.

I've tried prying the "ball" end of the cable with the smallest flat-head screw driver we have. I'm concerned about doing damage to the cable strands using this technique. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

On the underside there should be a place where you can line the cable up with a slot and it will let the whole thing slide out without a problem.

Yup, got that part. I still had a problem with getting enough slack. Yesterday I read a few postings that mentioned a pivot bolt. Confirmed this with a mechanic at work.

After reading you're reply, which was very helpful by the way because it sounded so simple and that told me I was making the task more difficult than it was. I removed the pivot bolt and the lever followed. Now I had enough slack to release the ball-end from the lever. I had just one more hurdle because I'm not familiar with cables in general. It took me a couple of minutes to figure out that I could grab the plastic sleeve, cable and all, and pull that out from something I guess that's called the adjuster bolt and lock nut. Once I realized that then it was a simple matter of getting the slots lined up again and out came the cable. Added enough drops of lube until it dampened the rag at the other end. Thanks for the quick response. :)
