Motorcycle Maintenance

#1 Unread post by StevenMichael »

Well its pretty simple, I am new to motorcycles and know not a thing about it. If I am to get into motorcycles I do not want to just own a motorcycle. I need to be able to perform any and every type of maintenance work imaginable on the motorcycle. So I am searching for a very cheap old bike that needs to be fixed up. I dont have time for an entire rebuild just some simple but not too simple things so I can begin to learn my way around a bike. My main concern is buying a bike that wont just completly crap out on me every other day. Dont get me wrong I want to learn the maintenance, but I would like to ride it more than I have to work on it. So things I want to put into consideration are brands. How easily parts are to acuire, If the engine is so squeezed in there it's damn near impossible to do anything, and just general information to help me figure out what kind of bike would fit my needs. I am looking for something around 750cc. I really like the vulcan 750 and stuff along those lines. That style just seems fitting. But I have found an add on Craigslist for a Yamaha seca 750 for very cheap. I am considering buying it, but I read up a bit on it and it said it wil crap out at 40k. The bike I decide to purchase willhave plenty of work put into it therefore I will want to keep it around for a long time. So longterm reliability is another factor that needs to be considerd. I am sorry if this sounds complicated...but I dont really know how else to put it.

Thank you Kindly

Steven
