Hi all

I stumbled into this site when researching motorcycles. What a great resource!

My son bought his first bike (2001 V-Star 650) and decided the safety course was a great father-son bonding opportunity. So I take the course in May with him... If I fall in love with riding (which I am fully expecting) next year I will have my own... In the meantime, I wonder if my son will let his old man take his bike for a spin ;-)

I hail from WNY originally. I used to work at Strong Memorial, and both my dad and my uncle worked at Kodak. (So did I, one summer.) :welcome: to TMW!

You have to be a little bit careful on this site, though. I asked one or two innocent questions, and before long I was riding to Colorado . . . :laugh4:

I did basically the same thing as you. I decided to take the safety course and was totally hooked after the first day of riding. Called my wife babbling about how great it was and her response was "We're getting a [fornicating] bike now aren't we?" I bought my bike the next year and have been happily riding it for 4 years now. I'm looking forward to finally moving up to a touring bike next year (I hope!) because my wife loves it too!

This is definitely a FANTASTIC resource for all information relating to motorcycling. If you can't find what you're looking for already posted somewhere, these guys will find an answer for ya!

Hi Bill, welcome and good luck with the course (and getting your son to lend you his bike)! ;)

Well.... I am official!! :D
My son and I both passed the course and went right to DMV for the license process. I then promptly returned the borrowed helmet like a good boy.... The next day, I went to visit my son, thinking we could both take turns on the residential street.. you know, nice and slow and easy... Maybe go to the local high school parking lot and repeat our training exercises..... As we stood in the garage planning our little venture, I realized............ I HAD NO HELMET! lol Kinda anti-climatic huh?

I know, I know... next step.... "buy a helmet"! ;-)

If you know where to shop and are willing to pay a bit more, there are some places that for a mere $4 - 9,000 will include a nifty bike with the purchase of a new helmet....

PS: Welcome to TMW...

Dr

I think you may be onto something there....! I can hear it now...
"honey, the good news is I have my own helmet now.. Its very good quality and might one day save my life.... the bad news is, it was a little more more than I planned to spend...Oh, and I also need to move your car outta the garage..."
